Senseless Records Background

Senseless Records started in 2004 like most good labels; with a white label. The EP by Sarantis was strictly limited but still found its way on to 1Xtra, Rinse FM and had a video that got airtime on Channel U. In spite of this early success it was Senseless 002 that gained the label wide recognition: ‘More Than Money’ saw Sarantis once again on production with a track that Boomkat described as ‘Weapons Grade Dancehall’. Truth told it was a killer brew of digital dancehall, dubstep and grime, and one of the first in the genre to feature the mighty Warrior Queen on vocals. The track got regular airplay from Skream and Mary Ann Hobbes amongst many others, it also encapsulated the sound of the label; experimental but with one eye firmly on the dance floor, one foot firmly planted in dubstep/grime the other exploring the margins where the sound meets techno, roots, bassline and rave amongst a host of others. Releases since from Sasquatch, Sarantis and Jack Sparrow have been highly acclaimed, distributed worldwide and have nearly all sold out – no mean feat in these
increasingly vinyl-starved times. A new distribution deal with ST Holdings in 2008 will saw killer releases from SNO, DeVille, Sarantis and Sasquatch. 2009 has been all about making the move in to albums with Vocals and Versions volumes 1&2 and a full length future crunk album coming late 2009 from Ghosttown and plenty of vinyl heat as well.

THE SHOW: Live on stage Senseless can do anything from a one DJ, one MC set to a full-on live extravaganza with anything up to six vocalists ranging in style from tough bashment to sweet soul.
This coupled with the emphasis on a diverse spectrum of Senseless dubplate exclusives from all the artists above and more moves the show more in classic soundsystem territory; this is a sound you won’t hear anywhere else. Larger shows can also include visuals from some of the best VJs in the UK.
In the last year the Senseless crew have played gigs in Scotland, Leeds, London, Bristol, Newcastle, Hull, Denmark, Spain, France and across the USA.
